William Charles Wearne was Mayor of Echuca from 1935-36 and 1939-40. A principal of the firm Wearne & Rowan he was associated with the theatre all his life. In addition to operating the old Tivoli and the old Paramount theatres,

William Charles Wearne was associated with establishing the River-Vu Drive-in in 1960.

He was one of the two original directors of the Riverine Herald and became chairman of directors in 1959. He was a foundation member of Echuca Rotary, Echuca Bowling Club and president of the Echuca Club. His son, Brian William Wearne was also Mayor of Echuca 1978-
