In 1979 the Star Theatre Dimboola hosted the world premiere of the movie Dimboola, directed by John Duigan

The town of Dimboola is no stranger to weddings, having been the setting for the play of the same name by Jack Hibberd. Playfully described as vulgar, bawdy and boisterous, the play (and the subsequent movie) depict a wedding in which the actors represent the bride, groom and family members. In a fun twist, the audience are the invited guests, greeted by the father of the bride as they enter and take their seats. The cast often serve glasses of sherry and finger food to the audience and even invite some members of the audience to participate in the shenanigans onstage.
