June 2, 1953 (Tuesday) - The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II as Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon, took place at Westminster Abbey. At the Queen’s own insistence, the ceremony was televised.

The people of Gundagai celebrated by holding a Coronation Ball in The Gundagai Theatre to correspond with the occasion.
