The screen end
1951 - after standing unused since 1949, St George’s Hall is being returned by Bradford council from cinema use to a civic public/concert hall. This shows the comprehensively trashed orchestra platform, the choir ranks, and the organ. The organ console had been relocated below the left side of the screen, as seen by the audience; and a motorised organ blower installed on the choir ranks (perhaps replacing the Victorian manual pump). The floor shows the curved outline of what had been the orchestra-pit for the silent films. There’s a considerable amount of suspended items: presumably for screen, tabs, drapes, etc.
