Empire Theatre Leicester Square
Photo taken in March 1931 film showing “Trader Horn” which for some reason had a great attendance of 286,367 during it’s five week run. Also a chance to see under the entrance canopy, showing the lighting of the underside, the American-style island paybox and behind it one of the three lantern-shaped light fittings that survived until final closure in 1961. Note the uniformed commissionaire holding back the queue and centre right one of the Empire’s managers' in full dress suit with tails speaking to a patron.
