Above photograph taken 15th May 1965 of the Palace cinema facade showing its Art Deco makeover of 1938. Either side the shops were modernised during 1964 and 1972. The Palace cinema fin was fixed above the former restaurant windows on the first floor, which closed in 1968 and later converted to a dance studio. Below the canopy and above the entrance doors a quad frame displays the current film showing “She” starring Ursula Andress and Christopher Lee. I visited the Palace Manager, Charles Fielding on 2nd July, 1983 and he informed me that the Palace would be closing as it had become uneconomical to keep running, this happened two months later.
