During 1925 boxing promoter Tom Uren leased the Butterfly once a fortnight to present bouts of fisticuffs. His son – also named Tom [1921-2015] – followed him into the profession, but after service in WWII - and time as a prisoner on the Burma Railway - he entered Federal politics and became a Minister in the Whitlam Labor government.
