A Wellington architect and self-confessed theatre tragic has been recognised with an industry award for his restoration of the city’s State Opera House.
Judges picked out Mitchell Burrows' attention to detail as being the key to a restoration in which subtlety “of colours lures you in [and] the longer you look, the more you can appreciate the exquisite detailing and colours as they gently complement each other”.
The restoration is the first since 1990 for the category one listed heritage building, and was a project close to Burrows' heart.
