Gresham Theater, 1936
From the Gresham Historical Society Facebook page: “Contrary to appearances, this is not the Hood Theatre which still stands on Powell Blvd. This was the Gresham Theater, located farther west on Powell. The back of the theater stood on pilings and hung over what is now Main City Park where Johnson Creek used to flow. Both Theaters were owned by the same family… More information on this theater can be found in our book, Stories of Our Past: Before and After the World Wars.”

Growing up in Gresham in the early 1960s, this hulking, abandoned building across Powell from the Rexall drugstore was rumored to be haunted. It was built out over a slough on concrete pilings. We were warned to stay away it– and we did!
