Mayfair Cinema Liverpool
Alfred Ernest Shennan architect for the Mayfair, this was his twenty third cinema, his next and last being the Abbey cinema Wavertree Liverpool, which opened 6 months prior to WW2 on 4th March 1939. His best was undoubtedly the Forum on Lime Street, this restrained exterior is now a Liverpool landmark entirely constructed in Portland stone, the main loss being the sweeping bronze entrance canopy removed in 1970. The beautiful interior was designed by ABC Head Architect William Riddle Glen, for the last twenty five years only Shennan’s exterior has been on view, whereas Glens interior has deteriorated unseen.
