Mayfair Cinema Liverpool
Side view of the Mayfair entrance before official opening 1st May 1937 this was to be architect Alfred Ernest Shennan twenty third cinema, his next and last being the Abbey cinema Wavertree Liverpool, which opened 6 months prior to WW2 on 4th March 1939. Above is viewed the architects skill of using patterned Lenscrete glazing blocks set into four bays of the bronze canopy, allowing natural lighting through and into the foyer entrance, with most cinemas the canopy was solid blocking daylight into this area, requiring extra use of electric lighting. The front left display cabinet displays a poster advertising the opening film, “Educated Evans” starring Max Miller.
