Carlton Cinema Orrell Park Liverpool
Photograph showing the highly decorative and comfortable Carlton in 1930. The screen and curtains are set back allowing a stage in front to be used, lit by a pair side three tier uplighters. Stage entrances are either side to the fore. A front auditorium proscenium has a barrel top to match the main ceiling, this concealed lighting that illuminated the central sun burst effect of a sun-rise and sun-set to coincide with the film commencing and ending. Decorative gilded grilles featured within the splay walls concealing back lighting and speakers. Further decoration was provided by a series of wall panels with Art deco flower motifs to match those on the stage curtains, above small windows were provided with their own swagged curtains. When viewing the above picture it is hard to imagine that the area is now used to wash dirty cars!!!
