Sun Theatre
Chosen tender to construct the 1,183 seat cinema was from David and James Girvan, who had set up the Girvan Bros. building company at Artarmon in 1920. (In 1928-9 they built the now heritage listed Balmoral Bathing Pavilion.) Final cost of the land and building was £10,767/4/1d. The Prince of Wales moniker was no doubt inspired by the visit to the Colonies by the then popular heir to the British throne in 1920. Sydney’s Prince Edward ‘Theatre Beautiful’ (1924-65) was also named after him.
