Odeon Cinema Brentwood
This photograph taken April 1962 of the Odeon front. Gone are the flag poles and most of the neon banding, canopy now has film display board. I feel the most interesting item undoubtedly is that of the Odeon Pylon though neglected had survived 24 years. Only shadows remain of the original Odeon sign lettering, also the base double crown boards are empty, only the “To Day” along the top remains. Best preserved is the red and mauve beacon that still surmounts the Pylon. Architect George Cole had designed two Pylons, the other at the Odeon Horsham, 7th October 1936 was monumental by caparison and worthy of listing.
