Photograph taken on opening day, showing the highly decorative proscenium area finished in gold, silver and red. The opening 34ft wide by 24ft high is framed by reeded columns supporting a fluted arch, this treatment of which is extended to form a frieze around the entire auditorium. The most impressive features no doubt are the fibrous plaster coved niches set back into the splay walls, draped with mirror reflective drapes and indirectly illuminated. These niches being boarded by columns matching those either side of the proscenium and topped by a stylised hood, with the silver and gold grilles either side being illuminated from behind. The contractors responsible were: Fibrous plaster Maples, Decoration Clark and Fenn and draperies Walturdaw Cinema Supply.
