Miles Royal Theatre
Akron’s (Charles) Miles Royal Theatre opened Monday, September 6, 1920 with high class live vaudeville acts including the Marconi Brothers (aka the Wireless Musicians), a news reel and the film, “Riders of the Dawn" starring Roy Stewart (at right).
Miles would skip town weeks later and the theatre would have nine more grand openings and quiet closings through 1937. A couple of those opening included a transformation to a Burley house closed by police (bottom left) and a transition to a third-tier movie house with a vaudeville headliner (upper left). The Miles Royal never clicked with the public.
