Ritz Cinema Birkenhead
Photograph of the auditorium taken prior to opening, on the left is the raised Compton organ with four manuels and illuminated console. Celebrated organist Reginald Foort played the Compton at the opening and Rowland Tims became the resident organist. The large auditorium had skyscraper murals on the side walls which were given the effect of going through the circle into the stalls. The interior designers were W.J. Wilson & Son of Mansfield, however, at some stage of the interior works ugly tubular lighting were fixed across these murals, this was a big mistake and surprising for a Cromie cinema!!! Three years later the entire auditorium and stage area were completely destroyed by two bombs to devastating consequences.
