Palace Theater restoration fundraisers continue thru the summer and fall. June 8, a movie will be shown at A Party @ The Palace block party, celebrating the end of school. Of course, Main Street in front of The Palace Theater will be the location of festivities starting at 8 p.m. Fair Park Auditorium will be the location the next weekend, Friday, June 15, for an authentic chuckwagon supper and western swing fiddling performance by the dazzling Quebe Sisters Band of Fort Worth. August brings the big band sounds of The Bob Boyd Band of Little Rock for a WWII USO-type concert at Childress Junior High Auditorium. Something for everyone as the Palace Restortion Committee continues to raise monies to take The Palace back to her 1937 Art Deco beauty—as a center for the arts on the brick streets of Childress, TX.
Planned re-opening date of The Palace Theater is September 2014, in time for Childress County All-School Reunion. Restoration efforts include the c.1937 neon sign (completed in 2010), the facade returned to its 1937 art deco beauty, according to a handtinted color photo (completed in 2011), and a new roof (completed in 2012). All projects have been funded by monies from local fundraisers. After professional consultation, the restoration cost is estimated at less than $500,000. Need to change our status from “closed” to “restoring”.
