The Tower Cinema, showing the splendid 1935 Art Deco interior. Opening admission prices were Stalls, front 6d. centre 9d. and rear 1/- Circle rear 1/6d. front 1/10d. Two years later in 1937 The Tower Company went into liquidation and was purchased by Gosport Council with various sections being leased out. The Tower Cinema was run by Filer Brothers Cinemas, who had built the new Savoy Petersfield, Architect Leslie Kemp and opened 12th August 1935. They also had various other outlets along the South. Charlie Chan made his final appearance in September 1958 just before cinema’s last film was shown. As the Tower cinema was three miles from where I lived and the bus stopped directly in front of the cinema I went many times, however, the Savoy and Embassy Fareham were only two miles away by bus which was a penny cheaper in 1956 so that made a great difference to an eleven year old cowboy addict!!!
