How awesome?! The old Busselton Drive-In has become a canvas for local WA artist Ian Mutch. Ian said the personal art project was about the exploration of storytelling, site and scale — and the portrayal of memories and nostalgia of the drive-in cinema.
“Drive-in theatres played an important role bringing together regional towns and communities. Through recent times in 2020, I also wanted to celebrate togetherness,” he said.
“Busselton Drive-In opened back in 1960 and was one of the last in WA to close. A big thanks to Ron Jones and family.
“The majority of materials for this land mural were salvaged from donated paints otherwise destined for the tip. Thanks to everyone who helped out!” How cool is that? - These giant characters were painted by Ian over a series of weeks.
The Busselton Drive-In is no more and has been sold to be turned into a retirement village. We all have great memories of “the drives". # by Christian
