Stanford Theatre

Too bad they did not leave this style of refreshment counter in these days. The current ‘Stanford’ one is very dull and not that inviting. Just brown wood no sparkle in the Stanford Theatre lobby. Time to bring back the ‘Skouras Style’ stand with the deco metal and red/blue velvet. At least they have a true fresh popcorn machine now. Many of the ‘Fox West Coast Theatres’ in the 1950’s/60’s pre made their popcorn in ‘Culver City’ CA each week and sent It up to all the Fox movie theatres around the SF Bay area in tall big brown bags by truck. The cinemas just put the cold popcorn in a warmer type holder. They did have real ‘Carnation’ butter. When I worked at the Fox Oakland and Paramount theatres in Oakland CA in the mid 1960’s one of my jobs was to unload the big FWC trucks that held the bags of popcorn along with all the box/bag candy plus empty cold drink and popcorn cups. The ice cream and butter was delivered by the ‘Carnation’ people same with ‘Pepsi’ syrup they had their own drivers. Hot dogs also came by a private company. I wonder what year the Stanford Theatre put in a oil popcorn machine? The one they have now has some of the best tasting popcorn of any movie theatre around the area.
