Regent Theatre
After Hoyts left the Regent, film screenings were few and far between. (At one point the ‘Valhalla Boys’ ran repertory for a few weeks). “ABBA – The Movie” premiered there 14th December 1977, and ran until a Bugs Bunny live show arrived in mid-January 1978. Then “ABBA” moved next door to the Hoyts Centre for a final two weeks. Later that year the Hoyts Centre wanted space for new titles in the August/September school holidays, so arrangements were made for the long running “The Turning Point” to move over and finish the last three weeks of its city season at the dormant Regent. Projectionists for these film showings were provided by Hoyts.
