This was my first local picture show in the early 1950s - I returned in 1981 for this snap. After the cinema was closed on 30th May 1959, it stood idle until owners Rank leased the building to Waitrose on 19th August 1961. It opened as a supermarket 28th November 1961, and operated until 24th October 1987 - when it was closed to coincide with the launch of Waitrose Northwood. The property stood derelict until demolition took place late 1988/early 1989. It had spent more time as a shop than as a cinema.
