Built as a 1600 seat dual purpose theater/cinema, the Wintergarden opened ‘live’ 4th June 1927 with a week long daily change Shakespearean Festival. Eight dressing rooms were located under the stage. Brisbane based longtime (36 years) BCC general manager W. J. Winterflood was in town to supervise the launch.
