BCC up-scaled the Wintergarden screen from 20 x 18 foot to a ‘panoramic’ 32 x 18.5 feet on 5th November 1954. CinemaScope was first shown there in early 1955, but the rival Regent had screened the first CinemaScope title to hit Townsville on 27th December 1954. The two men pictured inspecting the new screen are identified as theater managers.
