The Third Programme
The Dawn Patrol was shown at the Ritz in the week commencing Monday 22 May 1939. The cinema had opened two weeks previously on Monday 8 May with The Citadel. The Ritz replaced the Savoy on Darley Street.
The Ritz was like the Tardis, bigger inside than it looked outside. The stalls were below ground level. It flooded in 1947 and that put paid to the organ mentioned on the sign under the canopy above the expensive-looking motor. The organist that week was Bertie Johnston.
