Opening Day: Saturday, June 7. The finishing touches are now being put to the new Lyric Theatre, a handsome and imposing concrete building in King-street, which is to be officially opened on Saturday, June 7th,, by Senator J. B. Hayes. For some time it has been felt that the growth and expansion of the district warranted the erection of a better public building than the Mechanics' Hall, and it is through the enterprise and courage of Mr. Tas. Newman that Scottsdale has the distinction of a large and up to-date theatre, one, by the way, that will compare more than favourably with any similar structure outside the cities.
No better theatre*
It is claimed there is not a better theatre in any country town in Australia. Building operations were commenced in December last, and the result is now reflected in the substantial and imposing structure which occupies a central and ideal location in King-street, and will accommodate fully 800 people - Contributed by Greg Lynch - .
