Regent Theatre 191 Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC - 1929
This image is taken from a frame of nitrate film that was screened on the Regent opening night to advise the audience that Stanley Wallace was the performing organist.
The Regent Theatre in Melbourne opened in March 1929 with a Style 270 Opus 2009 4/21 Wurlitzer played by Stanley Wallace and Eddie Fitch. This organ was destroyed by fire in 1945 and was replaced by the Ambassador Theatre Perth Style 260SP Opus 1902 3/15.
American Stanley Wallace was the first to feature it, his contribution to the opening show being “‘A Morning Wedding’, a novel performance on the organ, in which various sounds, musical and otherwise, associated with a wedding ceremony, are simulated.” [Opening Programme, Regent Theatre, Melbourne, 15 March, 1929] - Contributed by Greg Lynch -
