Racine Mayor Francis H. Wendt declares it “Buck Private Day” in 1947 with stars Abbott & Costello paying for the festivities in downtown Racine. The Warner Rialto Theatre there has the film with 55,000 at the parade. Next door, the tavern sports a “Stage Door Canteen” sign while the restaurant has “Buck Privates Mess Hall” with the soda fountain creating Buck Private specials.
