Criterion Theatre
Scenic designers Frank E. Gates and Edward A. Morange of Gates & Morange draw up the stunning transformation of Charles Frohman’s Criterion Theatre to the short-lived name of the Vitagraph Theatre in 1914, a showplace for that studio’s own films. A giant 14' by 18' scree called “the Window to the World” would eventually wow theatre goers along with a $30,000 Hope-Jones Symphonic Orchestra Wurlitzer organ.
