Crittenden Theatre
Binfordized - a term named for Memphis film censor Lloyd T. Winford’s rejected films. Binford called himself the most “notorious movie censor in America” and didn’t like persons of color to be in the same scenes as white people and banned all films with train robberies. Here, “Duel in the Sun” – banned in Memphis in 1947 – becomes the Crittenden’s biggest money maker playing across the river in West Memphis, Arkansas.
