Cozy Theatre
Here are ads from Cabool’s Victory/Brownie theaters in the silent era of the 1920s. The Victory Theatre opened during World War I becoming Cabool’s first picture show venue. The fledgling, small-town Brownie Circuit took over the theater briefly in 1926 and the theatre became the Brownie Theatre. When Brownie left later in 1926, the theatre was called the New Victory Theatre. It’s likely that the Victory was retrofitted for sound in 1931 at the same time that the same owner retrofitted his nearby theater in Houston for sound. There, the theatre was renamed the Melba from the Lyric in 1931. Here, the theatre changed to the Cozy Theatre likely from the Victory.
