Metropolitan Theater
Strange promotion similar to a disastrous stunt in Houston gone awry in which publicists for the film at the Metropolitan in 1921 – “The Lady with the Latchkey” – hid 500 latchkeys in Washington D.C. near 15th and K St. The promo went correct when the publicists checked in a K. McDonald in the Hotel Washington from Keesville, NY and placed a lost key classified ad in all the DC newspapers instructing people to return the key to Room 132 in the Hotel Washington nearby. People began looking for the key and the first of of the keys arrived at the hotel at 6:30a. Reporters were at the hotel to cover the return of hundreds of keys throughout that day. The ad highlights the real stories carried about the return of the keys in multiple papers. A win!
