Joy Theatres' Joy Houck and Jack Pope opened their new build $300,000 685-seat Eastgate Cinema on June 23, 1965 with a special event. The next night, the general public was allowed in for “Joy in the Morning.” Because it was the Joy Theatre circuit, the movie made sense as its first feature.
