Showcase 1 & 2
These ads represents the run of the Showcase Cinema. The automated equipment allowed for five to six showings a day for features. In the far left it’s the Farmers Branch Showcase I & II showing mainstream first run (1974-1979). It would then become a sub-run house (1980) until Theaters West circuit of Houston took on the theater and went art in the second from left ad now as the Showcase Cinema 1 & 2 (1980-1). But Theaters West purchased the Inwood Theater in Dallas to find a more consistent art audience. The Showcase Cinema decided to revert to one screen of sub-run dollar fare and one screen of adult content (third ad from left). But the audiences only came for the adult fare with both screens going for X-rated films. And the final ad shows the last iteration of feature line-ups consisting of a double-feature with one X and one “XXX” film on each screen. Local politicians and law enforcement did everything they could to close the Showcase in this period finally coming up with an agreement that would end the theater’s exhibition days in 1988.
