According to Cinema Tour the Elmira Theatre architect was Michael J. Deangelis and the address was 111 College. The Elmira was remodeled around 1953 to accommodate a CinemaScope screen and new seats. If the Clemens was also known as the Elmira and the Keeney’s, then I wonder why it gives different addresses? I would love to see an exterior photo of the Clemens Center.
And Tim does post on the above obervertoday.com site though I haven’t found any posts, yet, by him mentioning local theatres and drive-ins. In fact, someone in the area is trying to promote interest in restoring a drive-in on Route 5…can’t recall the name at the moment.

So did the church in Greenville build an addition on the former Jordan Theatre land or is that land now just another unused parking lot? If it’s another unused parking lot, I hang my head in shame for the people of Greenville which includes those members of that church.
Well, it’s 2005 now and the Jordan is long gone, but it is sad to think that a church organiziation would allow this theatre to be lost forever! Another example is another former Blatt Brothers theatre in another PA town, North East PA along the shores of Lake Erie near Erie PA. The local Baptist church built an addition and guess what land they used?

It would be interesting to know who the architect of this art deco theatre was as the interior photos and the marquee are most definitely art deco in design. If anyone has additional information on this theatre, please post. Greenville is south of Erie PA. In an earlier post I see that the theatre was connected with the Blatt Brothers whose name was connected with many theatres in that part of the country. Correct: This theatre seems to have been demolished according to previous posts that include mine from a few years ago. Such a shame as the Jordan Theatre should have been saved, if that is the case.

ken mc: Very interesting to read about this theatre’s opening. I’ve been passed this former theatre and the building still stands though the marquee is long gone. The framed areas where the movie posters were viewed are still there though. At the present time a local Catholic church owns the building and uses it for storage.
maria62: I couldn’t figure out the connection with the Polk to the Penn Cinema in Butler PA until I saw the name CASALE. The theatre in Butler that most interests me is the former Butler Theatre which was an Eberson atmopheric.

This is a grand old atmospheric and one that I’d love to see, in person someday! Perhaps a good time would be during the Kentucky Derby.
