Maybe there meds were adjusted to the proper levels back then LOL. Seriously though they stopped doing good bookings as one of the above posts mention, they wanted the Paramount films because they were shipped free. If they had even gone second run with clean theatres and normal people working there it might have survived. How sane can someone be leaving holes in the roof while the theatre was open? Instead of playing the accordian in the lobby he could have glued some patches onto the holes in the roof.
I remember the Meadowbrook in those days. This was a time when UA was still keeping up the theatres. They also were very running these midnight shows in the Midway and did well with them.
Like the Cinema Kings Highway they run a combination of porno and regular movies on video. The main screen runs video projection of regular movies that are on tape and the smaller mini cinemas located through the place run porn. Queens also has the Polk which is still a XXX house.
One of my grandmothers who lived in Glendale was a regular at the Wagner to see German films. This was the first time that I ever heard the Acme doing the same thing. It is amazing how German this area along with ridgewood was.
The two (or more) projectors were a few feet apart from each other so the projectionist could thread the film and clean and maintain the projectors. Each projector had it’s own hole usually called a portal, which in most houses had a pane of glass to keep the sound out. In the better theatres we operated we had special optical glass, the other plain glass or plexi-glass. The projectors were indeed bolted to the floor, although in some theatres the base was so heavy that this was not neccesary. You asked about watching for the cues, well there was a series of bells that rand to tell you that the reel was getting close to the changeover. There were 20 minute reels and hour long reels. Glad to try to clarify some of this for you.
The Ridgewood draws a different audience but there is sure to be some people that will travel to Glendale. Many of the Ridgewood’s customers come from Brooklyn since the Commodore was abandoned.
Someone told me this re-opened as all Bollywood, anyone know? it used to be owned by the son of Mike Abrahams who had the Lefferts.
I dont know what they did on the inside, but when they re-opened the outside looked like hell. You can see it in the above photo’s.
Did you buy the tickets for the indoor theatre at the same box office as you did for the drive-in?

Yes UA did indeed spread their magic on the 8th Steet Playhouse, but only for a short time. Read the posting above about them taking the projectors.
What a huge orchestra this must have been as a single screen.
I’m suprised they would only run My Fair Lady on a Friday night and not both nights. What kind of stereo equiptment is the theatre using right now?
What is that box on the left of the screen sticking out of the curtains?
It’s a shame one of the last neighborhood houses could not have been kept up and survived. Does anyone know who operated it?
They should move some of the Castro bookings here now that the tide seems to be changing there.
It still sounds like the Embassy would make a good legit house.
Who ran the Embassy 2-3-4 when it was the Mark 1-2-3?

What is the layout of the auditoriums here?

Was this at the same time as the outdoor Back Bay concert or was that in 1967? I have a recording of that show.

I just found out this used to be a Jerry Lewis Theatre.

In the Pathmark Shopping Center that also had a Mays Department store in those days.

Why do you feel this place is cursed?
This is one Nassau County theatre I have never been to.
Does anyone know if there was ever a list of all the Jerry Lewis theatres?
This theatre had 2 marquees one flat against the building and one located out on Rockaway Boulevard.
