As for 3-D movies at this theater since the 3d projection was installed, the longest running 3-D engagemnt is still Avatar, both in IMAX 3-D and Real-D 3D. 2-D 35mm would be The Dark Knight. Digital 4k 2D would be Inception (which is also the same for the IMAX 2D version). There hasn’t been a major IMAX 2D movie that was shot using IMAX cameras that has played long at this theater. Attendance at this theater will be down today because of the big snowstorm. The theater is still open. The manager of this theater knows pretty well when to close the theater early, as it was the case with the Avatar opening one year ago this month.
I saw this theater on TV…they had the Heisman Trophy ceremony where Cam Newton won the trophy despite being under investigation for NCAA violations as his team faces Oregon in the BCS Championship game. As for the name of the theater, I think Best Buy made a mistake by naming this theater after it. The company’s profits are not doing well but its mobile division is doing ok. Again, I’m off-topic.
I checked AMC’s ETX website (http://www.amctheatres.com/etx) and there’s no mention of ETX in Paramus. The closest theater is in Times Square. What’s holding back on the ETX, Slimshady?
I agree mike. Five 3D screens on Xmas Day, will show 5 3D movies, which I think is a record for this theater. Tangled 3D and Tron 3D are the only true 3D features while the other 3 are fake 3D. The King’s Speech will be playing at this theater as well. It has gotten some of the best reviews out of any movie this winter. How it will survive at this theater will depend on word-of-mouth, awards, and star power.
Surprisingly, Tron outgrossed its predecessor by a lot. 24% of the film’s grosses came from the IMAX showings. Judging from some people that I talked to, there are mixed reviews. Hopefully Tron is still playing in both 3D and IMAX 3D so I can enjoy watching it instead of that Jack Black movie that was converted into 3D.
This was an ok theater….. no stadium seating in all screens, one screen had DTS surround sound while others had dolby, and there were two separate places for the theaters, one of which had five screens and one with two. I can remember going there awhile ago to see ‘Catch Me If You Can’ and there was this rowdy moviegoer who complained about the seats, my dad asked the manager about it and the person in charge of the theater took them out of the theater. With Cinemark opening up shop in 2012, it would be the closest location that the third largest theater chain in america has opened near a major metro city.
Megamind in 2d? That sucks. I saw that in 2d. Narnia and Yogi are fake, while Megamind, Tron, and Tangled were filmed in real 3D. I’m planning on seeing Tron in RealD 3D because it’s less expensive than IMAX 3D. Gulliver’s Travels will be in fake 3D and that will not do well. If you see Tron 2, JJD, let me know if the 3D is good. I heard that the 3D doesn’t kick in the movie until when they enter the virtual world.
I always go to this website and comment on theaters that I’ve been to or seen on TV or on the way to somewhere. The comment emails keep me updated on what’s going on with the theaters. I hope this site doesn’t get taken over by some commercial website as this site is independently run.
I feel sorry for those projectionists at my local AMC in Rockaway who no longer have to put a film reel into a projector now that all of the screens are digital. When shown correctly at a theater like what Clearview does for some of its theatres, the film is sharper and more real than digital projection.
Hopefully the Ziegfeld will have 4k projectors by then as many Clearviews will get 4k to replace 2k projection. Most of them are Barcos using DLP technology.
According to Box Office Mojo, attendance at this theater and many others have fallen for a fourth straight month. 15-year low. I think it’s because of higher ticket prices, not lackluster big movies. As the price of AMC’s tickets go up, people will stock up on AMC gift cards and gold passes to save money and pay only for surcharges related to 3D, IMAX 2D, and IMAX 3D events. They’ll also skip on buying for salty popcorn and bad fast food and head towards panera or another restaurant after the movie is over. From what I read, the presentation of the Fathom Events is like a standard def dvd, even with the Met in HD.
Their presentation is shoddy since they use 2k projectors much like what Rockaway does since they got 4k projectors. It’s less HD and more like DVD quality presentation. Fathom is best known for bringing the Met to movie theatres and reinvigorating worldwide popularity of opera.
Yesterday afternoon, went to see Harry Potter in digital IMAX at an 11:50 showing. The presentation of it was ok. Earlier in the showing, the trailers had a lot of brightness until when the Green Hornet trailer aired, the brightness was toned down until the IMAX think big trailer began. Most of the trailers save for the IMAX one were not shot in IMAX. If I were to see an IMAX DMR in a regular IMAX, it would be the equivalent of watching a letterboxed movie on a giant TV screen. This is a good place to watch IMAX DMR movies since the screen is tall enough to show that stuff. The surround sound was good, although it didn’t have a punch like Inception had.
Tickets for the sneak peek of Justin Bieber’s 3D movie have sold out at this and the Paramus theater. Bet there will be lots of screaming moviegoers who will enjoy that kind of thing. It would be cool if Rockaway got ETX like Paramus has. Slimshady, any word on if rockaway will get it? I’m sure I will enjoy it more than Dietmax.
Sad news in the moviegoing world. Two legends who brought excitement to this theater are gone. Both of which became huge draws 30 years ago. Irvin Kershner, director of Empire Strikes Back, and Leslie Nielsen, star of Airplane, his highest grossing movie, are now up in heaven.

There are quite a few 3D movies that won’t be in imax 3d, such as Tangled, Yogi Bear, and the Nutcracker movie, which is not doing quite well at the box office. After Harry Potter 2D IMAX comes Tron Legacy 3D in both formats. The next movie to come out after that run will be The Green Hornet, which was converted to 3D after being shot in 2D. The IMAX 3D version will be the IMAX DMR version of the film. Tron Legacy, however, will use IMAX 3D to the fullest as I saw in the trailers. Scenes that take place in the cyber world fill the IMAX screen.

The theater’s sign now says it’s showing select movies in digital 3D. I just saw that on the way home from work.
