In July 2017, a start to the project still awaited, a new set of plans emerged which does not cover the site of the existing cinema (obove), and which is planned to be closed and demolished in May 2018.
The new cinema will open at the end of 2018 (but don’t hold your breath) and is reduced to five screens seating, according to the plans, 1) 184; 2) 164; 3) 122; 4) 141; 5)103 a total of 714 seats. there will also be two restaurants and some office space.
As detailed in the text the theatre and ballroom were contained in a separate later building largely behind the black & white (Chronicle) photo, as can be seen in this May 2017 photo:–
Two exteriors of the Maindee as the Godrey Morgan pub – the Auditorium block shows the windows punched through the side wall of the rear stalls, which gives some idea of how the pub is laid out under the balcony.
I went through Leicester Square yesterday and the Odeon Mezzanines were running – can’t explain the website, but the refurb does not appear to have started yet.
A few more demolition photos a few weeks later in the process (October 2016):–

As of October 2017 the Capitol is up and running again as a Wetherspoons pub with no apparent change to the interior from 2014.

On a visit in 2017 the State seemed to have closed – however some major repair work to the auditorium walls seems to have taken place since 2008.
