Hi Marian,you mentioned in a earlier post 9-7 you had relatives from Linwood St. the DiMarco,s I hung with a group of guys from Liberty Park. One of which was Sonny DiMarco, He also had a sister named Rosie. Were they your cousins ?

P, yes… Sheridan Ave. started at Atlantic. We lived at #7.

I don’t recognize those names, but my father Sal was the mailman for the neighborhood from Hill Street to Sheridan Avenue, so he knew everyone on Hill, Autumn Ave., Lincoln Avenue, McKinley Ave… I think there was a little candy store on Autumn Avenue and McKinley. And on the corner of Sheridan and McKinley was “Iglebrink’s” (we called it “Inklebrink’s”).

My Aunt and Uncle and cousins, the Walls, lived at 406 Grant Avenue between the convents.

Did your grandparents live on Central Avenue near Halsey St. until they died, or did they move ?

You, too, might enjoy the Bushwick Buddies website ! You would be most welcome there. The lady who runs the site, Eleanor, has been on Cinema Treasures as “bushwickbuddy” and lived at Central Avenue and Eldert St. (one block from your family) until she and her parents moved to Glendale in 1962.

My father’s best boyhood and young manhood friend, Vincent Ferro, attended Fourteen Holy Martyrs. There’s lots of FHM talk and photos on Bushwick Buddies. Where was the House Of The Good Shepherd ?

When my dad was about ten ro eleven, around 1930, and lived at Evergreen and Moffat, he heard cattle drives at four in the morning from the LIRR, northwest on Evergreen Avenue, to the slaughterhouses near the Brooklyn waterfront, probably including the one on Johnson Avenue.

There were so many Bohack stores all over Bklyn and Queens. My dad worked in one as a young man until he got a better deal at National Biscuit Company at 1000 Pacific Street, corner Classon Avenue.

The Bohack in Ridgewood that I grew up with was on Seneca Avenue between Hancock and Weirfield Sts.

I’ve already posted the history of my family in Cypress Hills and Woodhaven in comments above as “PKoch” on this Embassy Theater page. My Aunt Gerry graduated F K Lane in 1947. She and my dad’s parents used to live at 169 Chestnut St., 1957 through 1968. I remember sitting in their kitchen one night in 1966, looking out their kitchen window at the twin towers of Blessed Sacrament, and seeing the full moon shine right through the opening of one of the towers, like through the eye of a giant needle. Beautiful ! Their landlady there was a Mrs. Benvengia.

My dad attended ENY Vocational High, about 1933-1937. The one near the Atlantic Avenue el station of the Canarsie Line and Fulton St. El, and the ENY station of the LIRR, BEFORE the East New York Avenue underpass was built (early 1940’s). Before that, (1931-33) my dad attended Halsey Junior High in Bushwick on Knickerbocker Ave between Weirfield and Halsey Sts.

No, I now live in Dobbs Ferry, a near northern suburb of NYC in lower Westchester County. I still visit Ridgewood every one to two months, though. I am a civil engineer by profession.

How about you ?

Excuse me : that should have been “Forty Carats”, srarring Deborah Raffin, that I saw at the Haven, along with “The Conversation”, at the Haven, late August 1974.

Gene Hackman also starred in “I Never Sang With My Father”, in which older long-time star Melvyn Douglas played his father.

I attended St. Brigid’s parochial school in Ridgewood, and, for high school, St. Francis Prep in Williamsburg, then Cooper Union in lower Manhattan.

My dad’s sister, my Aunt Gerry, graduated Lane in 1947.

Thank you, Muzer. I lived in MY old ‘hood, Ridgewood, from 1955 to 1991, when I married, but my parents continued to live there until spring 1997. My mother died in July 1997, by then my dad was in a nursing home, and my dad and I sold the house at the end of May 1999.

I still go back to Ridgewood about once a month and was there this past August 25th and Sept. 7th.

I lived in Ridgewood, on Cornelia, between Cypress and Wyckoff, but was born in Bushwick, where my dad was from, at Bway and Chauncey St. I was delivered in mid November 1955 by a Dr. Joseph Berman whose office was at 25 Logan St.

I lived on Jamaica Avenue between Norwood Avenue and Logan Street. PS 65 was on Richmond Street. You are correct that 171 was on Ridgewood and Lincoln. We were one of the last original families to move away from the neighborhood. I do remember the Haven theater. The matron’s there were the pits LOL!!! Where did you live?
