Photo of the facade at night during the renovations here – possibly a brief period when it is all visible, without adverts. Will they, I wonder cover the Empire Theatre name?

I was in Leicester Square last night 10th January) and the Odeon was hosting the European Premiere of “The Post” – not sure if this was for one night only or not.

Savoy Cinemas (Nottingham) announced as operator of the new complex – with opening slipped to “Early 2019”.
Still planned to close the existing Reel twin cinema in May 2018 leaving the town without films for over half a year.
Some last shots of the final drama (on-stage) at the theatre on 8th November 2017). The Coronet will finally close with a last party on the night of 31st December 2017 / 1st January 2018.

In July 2017, a start to the project still awaited, a new set of plans emerged which does not cover the site of the existing cinema (obove), and which is planned to be closed and demolished in May 2018.
The new cinema will open at the end of 2018 (but don’t hold your breath) and is reduced to five screens seating, according to the plans, 1) 184; 2) 164; 3) 122; 4) 141; 5)103 a total of 714 seats. there will also be two restaurants and some office space.
As detailed in the text the theatre and ballroom were contained in a separate later building largely behind the black & white (Chronicle) photo, as can be seen in this May 2017 photo:–
