Ken sorry to say you have no clue what you are talking about. After everything is paid most theaters are working on a 5% to 10 % profit margin..One of the worst % out of any biz in the nation.
I have seen over 2,500 movies and have never been in a theater that people boo the ads. Never not even in the early days of ads in NYC. My theaters at the time were the first in NY to run the COCA COLA ads when I worked for CO. I now get complaints from patrons because I don’t run ads before the shows at the theaters I own. Times have changed…….For the most part for the better.
Same people that bitch and moan here dont go to movie theaters… Ads have been on screen since 1985..Bow tie needs to change there policy to stay on profit goals so be it.Do you guts ever write anything up beat…..
You all have no clue what it cost to operate these buildings..The electric bill alone is mind blowing every month as well as Rent & taxes,phone workers comp,phone ,liability ins,admission tax,sales tax,projection upkeep,salaries,cam charges,newspaper ads, print delivery fees, web site upkeep, cleaning, cost of goods paper products,candy ,cable, license fees,film rental,water,garbage……………………….
it had a opening 4 day opening of $375,000-at the ZIEGFELD—THATS THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND IN 4 DAYS…….WOW—DOES NOT INCLUDE SUNDAYS NUMBERS
We have played some art titles day and date with on demand that have very well. This July we played SUMMER HOURS and did very well with it. I use to be afraid to play with on demand but it does not hurt us.
I have heard this argument for 50 years, Tv will kill the movies, beta ,Vhs , laser disc will kill the movies,dvd will kill the movies , giant tv screens will kill the movies ,home video, home audio ,direct tv, dvr ….blah blah blah… Nothing will kill the movie biz……. Sorry 50 years of the same bs and it never changes!
Then why is attendance continually going up.. not cash…….Even with all the computers ,giant tv screens and todays tech no decrease in attendance.. Most people love going to the movies on this site as i read them all the time. Those who live in the past well live in the past!
Theater projection is far superior to 25 years ago and sound is amazing…Maybe no curtains but the far better seats than the 70s —80 s more than make up for it. Been in the biz since 1981.

Chains sucked than and most suck now—– very little change in 30 years.
