Good question Brian…The reality of it is that they aren’t sure if all they have done to destroy the theatre is enough, and they are also trying to get support in the community because you can count their numbers on both hands. That doesn’t stop them, however from posting on web sites under mutiple aliases. The were caught by Hiram Wurf, a politican with a web site who tracked multiple posts, all under different names, to the same computer!

You didn’t know Mark or Doug, but you know what they would be doing now, just like you knew what really happened at the Taste, huh? Like I said then, nothing was going to happen, but most of you believed the wrong person, and look at the result. I hope it made you all happy. Then, when I volunteered to do an ambitious project that could have very well turned the tables, YOU shot it down…

LD4, you boyfriend is soon to be out of work if he’s in IT!! Isn’t that right, Duper Supporter? Anybody with half a clue knows any schmo can’t look at IP addresses unless they run the site!!!

Don’t need “approval”? Really? You mean policy has changed? What difference does e-mailing you make? I might as well e-mail Bob Defeno! You would not be bringing the community together, you will be tipping your hand. Do you really think the same people that have openly BRAGGED about defeating the Friends are now going to help them? NOT A CHANCE!! But go ahead, make nice-nice with them, then watch what happens. By the way, you never answered, is that the official position of the Friends, to do a big Lombard group hug about the theatre? If you have only been on the Friends since the RSC proposal, you wouldn’t have really known Marc or Doug, so how would you really know anything about them.

Community wide support is NOT necessary, just a majority, or bags of cash. Look at the convention center, there’s next to no support yet it is going ahead…

Well, here’s one from last week…That recent enough for you?
As someone who has followed the DuPage Theatre controversy very closely, I am concerned and confused by a few things I have read lately, and would like to get some clarification from you. I have read that you are actually not going to be supporting the DuPage Theatre Foundation in their efforts to restore the theatre, as well as not going to support the TIF extension any further in the State legislature. I know there have been a few people out there who are opposed to the project for whatever reason, but believe me, there is overwhelming support for the project, and I hope you continue to support the project.

Here’s the thing…If more money can be found for the theatre, couldn’t the RSC plan go ahead with one less floor and a few less units?

There’s plenty to loose by talking to the anti-theatre crowd, like any chance in the world of succeeding!!!

Reconsider the theatre for another use? You mean like the 2 you people have? 1. A pile of rubble. 2. The opportunity for a demo company to look like a hero “donating” a historic facade and marguee.

P.S. What I WILL NOT post are the corporate and other high profile letters I have sent out, but there are dozens out there!

Aww what the heck! I’m feeling generous! her’s a letter I sent dated JULY 3, 2005. So much for your theory about me not doing anything. Sorry, this was NOT cleared by the Friends to send, but since they kicked me out, it doesn’t matter, right? LOL!!!

I must thank you for the support you have shown for the DuPage Theatre project, and ask that you continue to show that support in the future. The DuPage Theatre is a historic gem that should be preserved for the ages. I look forward, as do many other taxpayers, to be able to take my daughter there to show her the way thing used to be, if only for a little while. Lombard should take a cue from Wheaton, which is restoring its Grand Theatre to help their downtown. To quote from yesterdays Daily Herald “The Wheaton City Council has supported the restoration efforts of the Wheaton Grand Theater to this point, viewing it as a possible cornerstone for future downtown growth.” Lombard has the same opportunity, if not more because new shops and places to live are included.

I’m sure you have heard from a few detractors who complain about size (the flyhouse, at just over 50 feet, has been there for the entire life of the building, with no complaints), the proximity to their properties (if you look at the actual lots and location of the homes, they are al more than 50 feet away, and trees screen their rear view, as do garages) and tax drain. These people will try to use every excuse in the book to prove their point. My question is, why should a handful of residents hold the future of the Village of Lombard in their grasp?

You have no doubt heard Trustees say they have not seen the support of the residents, which is a flat out lie unless the Trustees never leave their homes. Drive down any street and you will see signs of support on the lawns and in front of local businesses! In fact, a former Trustee, Karen Koenig, always said the support was there in her district. The new one, Jack O’Brien, claims he can’t find any support. Either all the residents in that district moved out, or there is a problem. I think there is a problem here. The entire Board had voted to pay a lobbyist to get the TIF extended, then Trustee Sebby got his resolution passed. How can the Board go from hiring a lobbyist to tearing down a historic building? Something doesn’t seem right here.

Most people didn’t understand TIF, but when I explained it to them and they saw that their property taxes won’t go up to restore the Theatre, they were more than happy to support the idea. Then Steve Sebby comes along and says he can’t find support. His own neighbors have signs in their yards supporting the project.

I ask you that as a person of influence, you do whatever you can to help this project survive, grow and flourish. I believe there is a reason this gem has managed to stay around this long, all we need to do is to polish her up to make her shine again.

DuPageDude here,

Dupe Neighbor, don’t you DARE consider yourself a preservationist!!

I would be willing to post the letters I have written to politicans, the media as well as many, many corporations, but I think it would make a few people on the Friends upset, since they didn’t get to read the letters and approve them before I sent them.

By talking with the anti-theatre crowd, all that will happen is the demise of the DuPage. The saying “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer” should not be taken so literally, and this will be the end of them

What do you have to loose? Let me remind you! The building on the corner of Main and Parkside, as well as the National Register of Historic Places. The building that people like Doug Christensen, Joan Destephano and Mark Barry tried to saave until the day they left this world! I wish they were around today to see this sad state of affairs. Doug would have smoke pouring out his ears, Joan would be screaming on the top of her lungs, and good old Mark would just be shaking his head.

DuPageDude
DuPageDude commented about DuPage Theater on Oct 17, 2005 at 6:15 pm

Once a demo company is awarded for being the low bidder, what they do with the building is up to them. If they are smart, they will sell it off a piece at a time (or chunk). Or in the case of the Union museum, they can donate it and the tax write-off would more than make up for what they lost as low bidder, and they look like heroes…Then get ready for the high-rise!!!

LISTEN! If you sleep with dogs, you will get fleas!! Make nice-nice, give away all your secrets, then stand there mouths agape as the building comes down!

Do you really think that Shoff and some of her anti-theatre “neighbors” like Bib Defeno, Kurt Lynch, Bob Bidle and othwers will be willing to sit around with the Friends and sing Kumbaya and tell theatre stories? Do yo0u remember their purple flyers?

DuPageDude
DuPageDude commented about DuPage Theater on Oct 17, 2005 at 5:44 pm

So now the Friends position is that it’s OKAY to destroy the theatre, as long as a few remnants are saved? Are you crazy? This is not a dialog, this is a JOKE!!! Since you say there was a vote for you (I don’t remember hearing any “vote”), does this mnean that your comments here are the feeling of the Friends of the DuPage Theatre, from the top on down? Does the entire membership know that you are trying to make a deal with the devil here?

Why have I not seen any press releases stating that the Friends are leliving the 60’s and trying to “love everybody”? Make no mistake about it, based on their track record, the Board wantrs the theatre down, the sooner the better, for whatever the reason. Look at all the roadblocks they have put up, all the inside information people like Lynch and Defeno have gotten over these past months, now you want to work with them? Insane! I thought all that theatre supporters had to fight were those opposed, not those involved too!

I had lots of good ideas, just as the self-appointed communications director. I do care about the theatre, I put in countless hours on the project, well before the election(s) too. They (the Friends, at least certian ones) thought they knew better. Look where it got them. Now an olive branch is out to those who fought to level the building…insanity if you ask me.

DuPageDude
DuPageDude commented about DuPage Theater on Oct 17, 2005 at 2:52 pm

Get your last gi
limpses of the DuPage while you can folks, it appears the new Friends strategy is to snuggle up nice and cozy to the very people who worked so hard to defeat RSC’s fully-funded plan.
Take a read at this, a post from Mrs. Shoff, the new olice branch holder for the anti-theatre bunch… “Excuse me, Mrs Dynako but I would appreciate if you would kindly leave my name out of the childish accusations that take place on this website. This is the second time you have assumed a poster here was me so I felt the need to finally speak out. I have never posted under the name DebDupe and I don’t appreciate you throwing my name into your mudslinging game.

You don’t like my editorial? That’s fine because I don’t like the way you and Ms. A have treated the village board and I certainly take offenses to the lies printed in our yellow local paper.

For those of you who haven’t read my editorial, let me clue you in. I am petitioning the board to SAVE the historical elements of the theatre INCLUDING the marquee and facade for use at a future time and I challenged the editor of our paper because she lied and told the readers that this was no longer a possibility. Boy – you’d think “preservationists” would follow suit and do the same but they haven’t and who knows what will happen next? You see Mr. Fortini, this is more about pride now. No one wants to lose.

The theatre is being torn down and yes, I fought vehemently against the condo plan developed by the Friends. I also support and will lobby for a new library on the site. I would love to see if the marquee and facade could be saved for use on that or on another development. There is no middle ground on this issue for either side and I personally think they are all acting like children.

We’ll have to see what happens next – the board meets again tomorrow. In the meantime if Mrs. Dynako or any other of the Friends would like to make accusations about me – make sure you have the right target next time and anytime you want to talk about joining forces to save portions of the theater, send me an e-mail Otherwise – please leave me out of this pettiness."

I also recomend reading this…
“Heavy political pressure was put on Senator Cronin to hold off on the TIF extension until the Spring. He complied (Early May 2005)

The failure to get the extension through General Assembly opened the door for the June 2nd resolution to demolish.

Several District 4 residents and community leaders met with 5 of the six trustees individually to garner support for a vote to demolish (All of this ocurred in May) We explained the importance of getting the resolution passed before the Spring. We knew killing the TIF was critical to stopping the RSC Plan. …Remember that?

Once we got the necessary 4 votes to keep the vote away from Mr. Mueller, the resolution was written and passed.

The next step was also important. The TIF probably would have passed in the Spring. We knew that. What we had to do was stop other funding sources that were in the RSC plan. Through our Springfield contacts we discovered that the Governor was going to release a slew of “pork” funds in October 2005. Included in this was the $1 million dollar America First grant. Knowing this, we had to make sure the village voted to reject the funds prior to October. Had this not happened, residents may have warmed up to the RSC plan and supported it. Residents tend to get happy feet about State and Federal support money coming in to their town. The resolution to reject the funds passed and and demolition will happen in either the Fall or the Spring, depending on how the judge rules. There is a contingency plan in case something crazy happens. "

Now the Friends want to buddy up with these same people. Personally knowing the Friends, I bet I can guess where the idea comes from, and it’s going in the wrong direction, and badly. The Board has thrown up roadblocks all along, they DON’T listen to residents, just ask those around St. Johns, they only look at the almighty dollar—how’s your tax bill? Or your water bill? Now you think by being buddy-buddy with the Defeno crowd something will be accomplished? I’m sure it will, the destruction of the DuPage!

LD4, your gene pool is pretty shallow! You said you are happy the silos are gone and the property was sold to a condo developer, then you say you hated the RSC plan. Why don’t you protest that Hammerschmidt was sold to a dreaded condo developer? I never heard anyone complain about that, yet you said you’re not happy about more condo’s. It’s not really the condos you hate, it’s the theater—admit it. A library won’t raise your property values like you hope, so give it up and admit you are just plain against the theater!

I already questioned if that was the Friends “offical” position or if they even knew what she was saying…For her to now talk about different uses other than cacultural center is a slap in the face of every resident and volunteer who has toiled to see a dream come true.

BTW, the Sox won again (natch) so I flipped past “Soundstage” on PBS—-It’s country singer Martina McBrida at the Genessee in Waukegan—theatre looks great, and from their web site, more and more events there all the time! Too bad the DuPage isn’t already done, there’s a TON of middle-tier artists such as Miranda Lambert, Gary Allan, and others looking for smaller venues to play in to help them gain a following!

It appears LD4, aka Lombard Guy on the anti-theatre board, is off his meds. Read the way he treats people—where’s Marisa to tell him to relax?

Ms. Dynako-why would you open a dialog with someone connected with one of the biggest nuts out there? Are you that naive? Based on what you just posted-saving the building as a theatre is no longer the main focus-is that the Friends offical position? What about all the dollars spent on architects, business plans, etc? If you change the emphasis from using the building as a cultural center, you might as well give up!

Just think, if the Friends had listened to one of their members and gone door-to-door getting signatures from registered voters on a petition, even if it was non-binding, …there would not be this problem, and a lot of money could have been saved!!

As far as the vandalism, I highly doubt it is true, since there was NO report of it in ANY of the papers! How are you “pretty certain” it was Duper since you don’t even know who it really is?

Hello,
I have volunteered to organize the “Taking Back Our Corner” party for those who worked so hard to defeat the theatre plan… I think it is best not to post the party details publicly. I have a long list of guests already, those people will receive an invite to your e-mail account or home address.

It’s going to be a great time! We all deserve it!

“Our downtown is basically a straight line, with very little shopping, and it mostly consists of businesses (Real Estate office, cabinet maker, insurance agent, etc.) and not shopping.”

This is a direst quote from Challenger on Oct 11. Apparently he doesn’t know Lombard too well, but he knows the theatre is a bad idea, how funny! The downtown also, like most downtowns, has 2 major streets, Main and St.Charles Road. There are several small side streets of St. Charles with many, many businesses on them…

By the way, always ample seating at Praga, NEVER a problem geting a table…

DupeNeighbor, you said “It now includes a restaurant that was featured in the Tribune as a "must try” and has been booked nightly ever since. It includes a restaurant from a major national chain and many other shops, hair salons, candy store, antique store etc" Can you tell me what the names of the restaurants are? I was just curious. What national chain is in the downtown? Where is the antique store in the downtown as well? What’s the name?

The anti-theatre crowd rotates throught the same 3 or 4 objections to the theatre. I think the only ones they haven’t tried are that A. The theatre sits on an ancient indiam burial ground and B. There is nuclear wast stored in the basement.

Their M.O. is to try and to discredit any one who tries to give an opposite (and normally factual) rebuttal to their ramblings! Look at the postings lately by “Billa” claiming another theatre is paying off the trustees to tear down the theatre. Think about it, if some one had proof like that, why wouldn’t they go to the media first, instead of an anti-theatre web site working in conjunction with said trustees?
