For Ed Dolero’s benefit, a recap:

Warren said: <<<<The theatre had its grand opening on February 25, 1921 as Weingarten’s Parthenon Theatre, under the ownership of Herman Weingarten, a veteran Brooklyn exhibitor with visions of becoming another Marcus Loew. The first movie shown at Weingarten’s Parthenon was “Outside the Law” with Priscilla Dean, followed four days later by Tom Moore in “Hold Your Horses.” Continuous performances were held daily from 2 to 11 PM. Prices were 11 cents for weekday matinees, 20 cents for weeday evenings, and 22 cents for all performances on Saturday, Sunday and holidays, according to an ad in the Ridgewood Times. No mention was made of prices for children.

Which led to the incendiary comment:<<<<Repeating details consume as much space as bilge comments; right fella.

I’m sure Warren felt his post provided new and interesting details. And I’d agree.

I was annoyed to see one of the same gang again spewing his venom on Warren for no reason.

And I had the rag on.

I’m really having a hard time trying to figure out why ‘Tonino had to rekindle the flame here. Actually, seems to me that he’s just flat out baiting Lost Memory – who, I can assure all of you, is not an alias of mikemovies or anyone else. The theater pages have been nice and quiet and on topic for the most part and for quite a while here, so why make any insinuations at all?!?

It’s just pointless… Please, ‘Tonino, let’s not go forward into the new year leading with the wrong foot. Rather, let’s remain civil and tolerant of each other – and it seems to me that it is not just Lost Memory who perceives a lack of civility in your recent comments here. Cheers, everyone. I hope your New Year is a happy, healthy and prosperous one!

I am not now, nor have I ever been, either Bway or mikemovies, although Bway and I are e-pals outside this board.

Come on, guys, can’t we play nice here ?

Lost Memory asked: , are you insinuating that PKoch, mikemovies and Bway are one in the same person or at least two out of those three are the same person?

Nope. Not all three or even two. …Poor LM, he can not even discern civil on topic posts from those which contain incendiary remarks. How come today is the first time you’re posting since Sep 28. Because Mikemovies is spewing your “bilge”.

I have to get my cross-correlation program running to confirm it from other venues with 99.8% accuracy. Until then, over and out on this thread,

Bway, I mistakenly referred to you. I have no reason to believe you use an alias or promote flame wars.

But, me thinks Snow White doth protest too loudly. … Funny that he has not posted since Sept 28 and that his alias dwarf’s first flaming post to Warren on the Parthenon was later on the same date.

Coincidence? …Strange stuff.

I have to get my cross-correlation program running. Until then, over and out on this thread,

Well, I have no idea what you are trying to say, or who you are talking about (but it seems you realize you made a mistake) , but all I know is that I have no “aliases”, “Bway” is the only name/handle I have ever used on this site….., and I have never been involved with any sort of “flamewar” with anyone on this site either.

Bway, accept my humble apologies. I don’t know why I used your name.

The person whose suspension from the list I protested, and whose negative commnts regarding Warren are on the Ridgewood list, is… Funny that he has not posted on the Parthenon since Warren’s clarifying post of Sept 28. Note the dwarf’s first post to the Parthenon was also on Sept 28 and they were several nasty posts to Warren. Coincidence? Strange stuff. I wish I could get my cross-correlation routine running.

Bway, I was thinking of exchanges on the Ridgewood page. But I am also trying to get a statistically accurate cross correlation between you possible aliases you may use. And then again, maybe you don’t use any aliases within the 99.8% accuracy I am shooting for. Maybe you don’t use any aliases.

And what exactly did I do?

AntonyRoma

Warren, my comment was directed at the seven dwarfs. But it was not meant to dispense “venom and wrath” upon them. I have in the past expressed strong support of your positions. Of course I also protested Bway’s removal from the list.

I’m just an equal opportunity guy.

Thought I’d check this page to see if I could find out who was paying outrageous rents for the honor of living in Bushwick. I couldn’t.

But, geez, there’s no escaping the nastiness between the seven dwarfs and Warren.. ;–)

‘warrenthewimp’ you appear to be homophobic. Any theatre that does not meet your criteria should be removed from Cinema Treasures. You pretend to be a theatre historian. In reality your just a trouble maker with a few theatre reference books at your disposal. Any person with a library card could equal or exceed your contributions if they so desired. Perhaps you should seek out a book on personality disorders instead of theatre history.

Perhaps the best way to communicate with you is to lower myself to your infantile level. If other members post duplicate data you make snide remarks aimed towards them. Isn’t that true ‘art’ or ‘warren’ or whatever your name is today? The webmaster may allow you to be condescending and obnoxious towards other members but as individual human beings we do not have to accept your behavior. If you call me names again I will respond in kind.

Don’t feel bad PKoch. I have seen that building literally thousands of times from the Wyckoff station platform, or riding by on M trains, and didn’t even know it was a theater at one time until I found this site….

The Parthenon theater opened in February, 1921. It was owned by Herman Weingarten. posted by Lost Memory on Aug 21, 2004 at 4:34pm. Perhaps new details would be more informative. Rehashing already known facts are a waste of time and space. Repeating details consume as much space as bilge comments; right fella.

Thanks, Warren. I wish I could remember when Parthenon Lanes closed.
It’s maddening to have walked by it thousands of times, yet not be aware of that.

Thanks for the info. Ah, Boris Badinov !

“D-O-O-O-CTOR MA-AR-ARVIN!” – Ah, hark! The dulcet tones of Paul Frees, also a well-presented voice on “The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle” TV series. (He was Boris, among others.)

I suspect the mini-saucer was made of lead. The color was a flat silver, and the top actually revolved. It was motorless, however. Harryhausen’s stop-action process gave it the spin. It photographed beautifully for the Big Screen in glorious B&W.

Good for you, holding that Harryhausen-created saucer in your hands. Any idea why so heavy ? Metal, with motors inside to create the spin and the moving parts, with a certain finish that would photograph well ?

“D-O-O-O-CTOR MA-AR-ARVIN !”

Glad you got to meet both Rays that day. A friend of mine from work got Bradbury’s autograph ten years ago at Barnes and Noble, Astor Place, NYC, and told him, “Mr. Bradbury, I think you’re the greatest living American writer !” To whidh Bradbury replied, “Well, thank you ! I’m glad to be alive !”

Talking about HEAVY, you’re replying to the guy who, at last year’s San Diego ComiCon, held is his hands one of the three prototype saucers Ray Harryhausen created for “Earth Vs. the Flying Saucers.” For only nine inches across, it carried some serious weight!

BTW, got to meet both Rays that day. The one mentioned above is a 100% class gentleman, and his longtime friend is a hoot in his own way. Bradbury spotted and loved my Pacific Electric Red Car T-Shirt. He then turned to his young biographer, rapped him on the arm to get his attention, saying, “See? That’s the car I’m always telling you about!” The young man calmly replied, “I know. I’ve seen pictures.” Ray immediately shot back, stinging him with, “SEEN THEM? By God, you had to RIDE ‘em like I did? KIDS! Harummmph! Too funny.

“Catwomen of the Moon” : The TV Guide ad for this when Chiller Theater rain it was only one word :

BOO !

Film Forum first showed the 3-D version (glasses provided, of course) then a somewhat longer 2-D version, remarking on their program : “Well, you ASKED for it !”

One line I remember was, “Hey, these space shoes are HEAVY !”

I’ll look forward to the Parthenon Theater pix. I’ve seen a few already, perhaps with links to them on this page, dahlinkala. Thanks in advance.

My first memory of the Parthenon was as a bowling alley, Parthenon Lanes, in the fall of 1961.

Somewhere in my transit books, whether the Arcadia series or one by Fred Kramer, I have several excellent B&W shots of the Parthenon’s exterior and marquee. The trick is to figure out if they are here in CA or back in Brooklyn. Will inform and/or try to get them posted when I eventually track ‘em down, dahlink. LOL!

(Don’t forget Sonny Tufts, Victor Jory and their “Catwomen of the Moon” from ‘53. Absolutely dreadful. So bad I can’t even get you a good quote!)
