This opened as Cooper 70 in November 1963 and became Cooper 123 on December 24th, 1970. The grand opening celebration for this cinema was cancelled when President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. Cooper sold it to Commonwealth in 1975. I think it closed in the late 1980’s.
I show that the Chapel Hills Sixplex was opened by Mann in 1982 and an separate 9-screen cinema in the mall opened in 1985 with the older screens renamed Chapel Hills 10-15. Carmike bought out Mann in the region in 1992.
If you look at the mall’s directory, you will find the two separate locations.
Chuck 1231 If you got the infomation from my movie-theatre.org website
It means about 1975, about 1980 and about 1985. Trying to find more accurate dates. It looks like it opened as a single cinema in the late 1960’s.
June 3rd, 1987 grand opening ad has been uploaded. It very rare to have an cinema on an upper floor of an office building. The only other example is the Capitol 3 in Yellowknife, NWT. It closed in 2002 when AMC bought out the Gulf States Palaces cinemas.
Downstairs is being converted, Cinemas 4-7 upstairs remains except for seats and projectors.
Something happened to it in 1963 according to the picture that I uploaded. It came from the USGS Earth Explorer.
