Lost: Thanks…again. Now that I see those birds I do recall being inside the Gem though it was during a movie showing so I couldn’t really see the auditorium that well.
I recently was told about this theatre and another theatre in a town just south of St. Charles (starts with the letter G)where the Arcada is located. Any photos of the Batavia?
sam_e: Unfortunately, you are correct in that Main Street assessment. Personally, I would like to see it opened up again as that might help revitalize that area of downtown. Whose idea was it anyway?
Lost: My husband is a car enthusiast and he tells me that a ‘57 T-bird is worth from $25,000-$75,000 depending on level of restoration. What color do you prefer? If you want to know more, email me.
In a book entitled Lucille Ball: A to Z by Michael Karol (page 296) it reads in part: “The chauffeur, who was one of the witnesses, drove them back to New York in time for Desi to appear for the second show at the Roxy Theater. It was the first marriage for both.”
And again, if anyone gets the opportunity to catch that MB ad filmed at the El Rey it will be worth your time…very classy.
Great photo showing not only the marquee, but the ornate building above the marquee.
Yes, but plan it in the winter months when I’m in the Gem area!

Perhaps I have missed it, but are there any interior Gem photos on this “gem” of a link?
Lost: I never tire of seeing the Gem’s art deco marquee! Thanks.
And now I see that it was “twinned”!
Is this theatre closed? If so, what gives?
LOUB: Very informative site…thanks.
DakRoland: I, for one, applaud you for your WG effort. Keep all of us on CT updated to this wonderful developing story.
The photo shows the name PARAMOUNT though the marquees are different if you compare the photo you posted to the one on this link.
Warren: Fabulous 1956 photo!! Must rent that Hitchcock thriller.

The perfect combination: a great theatre marquee and a great box of Fowler’s for your movie date.
KevinS: Absolutely beautiful and the candy next door at Fowler’s is DElicious!
wolfgirl500: Thanks for the update and updated photos.

The photo looks like a bustling downtown or at the very least a modern day car show with classic cars! LOL!
Lost: Great photo of a former downtown Buffalo.
Warren: Thanks for the photo!

OJOF: Interesting family theater history! Thanks.
Lost: What a wonderful theatre in the heartland of America. Sure hope someone buys it…soon! Sure wish we could learn the asking price on CT!
Lost: Quite the art deco facade!
