A petition being assembled with celebrity support to save this cinema from being demolished to make way for a ventilation shaft for Crossrail North- South. See 38 Degrees who also are fighting to save Odeon, Kensington.
Final closure was due on Monday 31st August, staff told me on a visit on 27th. This was the day a petitions to save the building was handed in at the Dept of Culture, Media and Sport, containing over 25,000 signatures from the 38 Group.
The Coliseum is equipped to show films, but appears to be a theatre, education centre and wi fi café. Films are shown at the Pavilion on a regular basis.
After a period of being empty again, the old cinema is now Gourmet Burger Kitchen, from July, 2015 . The curved ceiling is retained and the long lead in from St Peters Street, but the stairs to the balcony are gone and replaced by a new enclosed one to 4 cubicles and GBK crew accommodation.
The whole building is called the Baker Mamanova Gallery after owner Russell Baker and Russian art exhibitor Olga Mamanova. The cinema is being restored and called Kino Teatr . It is due to open with a play on July 9th
The frontage was updated by 1930 and in 1937 a waiting lounge converted from a former storeroom. Rear projection may have lasted until May, 1934 The present Bppts store was opened on the site in June, 1982.
Built in only 3 months, the cinema auditorium measy=red 69 ft x 28.5 ft wide. It had plastered walls with fan patterning, a curved roof in panelled “insulwood”, a Japenese oak stage and 370 old gold velvet seats bought from James Hellenbrand in Southend.
The Palace opened in the Corn Exchange in 1910. Proprietors were Michael Williams (1910-36) then Russell Wright, (1936-37) Then Owen Cooper who also ran the Palace,, Hadleigh. The cinema had 400 seats.
A CTA friend reports that the bulk of the building is now used by Boyes Dept store, a chain of stores in northern England. Their site gives no information but if they reply I shall add confirmation later,.
I have just been to Todmorden (20th May, 2015) and found the Olympia still standing opposite the bus station. There is a Morrison up Rochedale Road where is probably more welcome than in Hebden Bridge!
The Curzon Bloomsbury is opening on 27th March, with six screens designed by architect Takero Shimazaki. The fifth one will retain the name Renoir and be the largest with 139 seats and 10 more in the balcony. Other screens are around 30 each except the 55 seat Bertha Dochouse screen 6
The BBC Our World programme filmed in Eritrea after a 10 year gap. Glimpses of the Odeon, Roma and Impero were shown in the introductory scenes shot in Asmara. The programme came out in March, 2015.

In November 2015 the Regent was designated an Asset of Community Value under the 2011 Localism Act, and a notice to this effect posted outside.
In 2015 Sainsbury is converting the former cinema into a store after Budgens closed
The lighting scheme and décor seem better in late 2015 than in the earlier colour shot.
The Nightclub has re-opened as the Channel Club under new management. The former cinemas are now in use as the Ocean Rooms

The Grand may have been a bingo club after films ceased as Flickr has a photo by Ian Grundy taken of the cinema on bingo around 1973
A campaigning group to reopen the cinema on Facebook has been extended to www.reopentheregent.com where the long saga of the Regent is documented.
Merlin cinemas have announced they are taking over the cinema from the present owners and will rename it the Kings (July, 2015)
