Ben Hur was at the Jersey last year but if they could get the Ten Commandments I know I would be there. Instead of “Planet Of The Apes”, how about “The Greatest Show On Earth” which also starred Charlton Heston.
Theaterat…I think I only went to the Benson to see that one show after it was twinned. I went there many times when it was a single screen theatre. I remember seeing films at the Highway but sadly I never went to the Walker.
I remember seeing a re-issue of “The Producers” at the Benson after it was twinned. The sound and picture were both okay. The builders did a nice job twinning this theatre although I still perferred the original theatre. Its a shame that the Benson closed anyway and is now a drugstore.
Given the fact that there really is no place to put a parking lot or garage at this location I always felt it was a longshot to see a new Marboro theatre at this site. This is also the main reason that a planned renovation of the Loews Oriental never happened. I think $10 million for this site is a little to high also.
My guess is they will keep it as AMC/Loews for a while and then drop the Loews name after about 6 months. It will probably take that long to change the name on all the current Loews theatres to AMC.
The same problem existed at the “Worldwide theatre”. When it first opened it was “state of the art” but since it was located between 8th & 9th ave. (Like the 34th st.), few people would go there. Eventially the theatre dropped first run films and screened second run films for $2 and even then it was several years before crowds were seen there.
I would guess Regal or Clearview would be more interested in the E Walk than the State. Most people do not even know there’s a theatre in the basement of the Virgin store.
There are water fountains on 2 levels. Near the rest rooms and on the top level near theatres 9 & 10. I think they charge a little less because the threatre is between 8th & 9th ave. But there is nothing wrong with the neighborhood.
Except for the escalators that never seem to be all working at the same time this is one of the best multi-plexs in the city. Much better than the Lincoln Square or the Kips Bay. And at least right now a ticket there is cheaper then at the other theatres in Manhattan.
I saw Bye Bye Birdie at The Loews Oriental in Brooklyn and would run to see it at the Jersey. Really looks great on a big screen. Couldn’t the Jersey have found some animal themed films from the 1930’s or 1940’s to screen instead of the ones they picked. And after no Jan. show I was hoping for something really exciting from them in Feb.
I am pretty sure I watched Don Kirchner’s Rock Concert at 1 AM after Saturday Night Live ended. It could have been on channel 5 but it was on after SNL was over.

I wonder if I was at the same show as you.

You also can’t operate a bowling alley in Brooklyn today for the same reason.

A chain link fence has been erected across the entrance to the theatre.

I will miss the giant Loews neon sign at the E-Walk.
She was fired from this movie. Some of her scenes from this film turned up in a documentary about this film a few years ago. I believe it was on TCM.
Or any of the “Blondie” series. By the way the original “Daisy” was played by the same dog that played “Asta” in the Thin Man series.

Or “Rhubarb” The star was a housecat.
How about “The Story of Seabiscutt”. I believe that film was from 1948.
I wonder if AMC will raise the ticket prices at the 34th st. Loews was charging $9.50 at this venue.
I’m sure this theatre will not close. It’s only about 5 years old.
I think the 34th St. times are not listed until Thursday. I know that theatre is not closing.
The last Times Square area Broadway theatre and now it will be gone too. How sad.
I saw it there also. Really looked great (and scary) on their large screen.

The Loew’s has announced their film show for Feb. “Best In Show”, “Old Yeller” & “The Misfits”. (Feb.10 & 11.) Not really what I was expecting.
