This photo was not taken across the street on the State-Lake marquee. The State-Lake was directly across the street from the Chicago. This photo may have been taken from the L station platform.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Recently, the upper portion of the building had some work done and underneath some covering was a sign that read “GRAYLAND THEATRE”. You can now see it on top of the exterior.

STAR WARS (1977) never played in 70mm when it was showing there in 1977.

I saw THE MASTER on August 16 at the Music Box in 70mm. It was presented in 1.85; Datasat Sound. It filled up a good portion of the proscenium.

Ooopss….my apologies to CF Fan. I misread your comment. I think what you’re suggesting is maybe Landmark will install digital in Auditoriums, 4, 5, and 6 and, hopefully, 70mm in Theatre 7. Keep our fingers cross.

If I were to make a guess, I’d say it was for digital projection installation. Of course; I hope I’m wrong but to install 70mm in FOUR auditoriums???? But, we shall see….I hope it is 70mm installation!

There MUST be separation between church and cinema!!!

Tim O'Neill commented about Chicago Theatre on Feb 9, 2012 at 10:51 am

This doesn’t bother me that much. Whatever it takes to keep the theatre open. And besides…at least they didn’t change the name of the theatre to the “Chase Theatre”. I think the real travesty was having the Shubert Theater’s name being changed altogether to the Bank of America Theater. Now THAT’S bad!!!

Tim O'Neill commented about Biograph Theater on Jan 1, 2012 at 8:14 am

The Biograph never had a balcony. Upstairs used to be a variety of things. I was told it was a pool hall, dance class space, political gathering hole, lots of things. In 1983, the owner of the Biograph converted the upstairs space into 2 small auditoriums. He left the original 1914 auditorium alone. The original auditorium never got divided when it was a movie theatre.

It was originally an M&R Theatre, then it became a Loews Theatre in the late 1980s. And then………with the big merger; it became a Loews Cineplex Theatre and closed in the summer of 1999. It later got demolished.

Tim O'Neill commented about Bryn Mawr Theatre on Sep 9, 2011 at 9:39 pm

I walked down the alley today. One of the original exit doors was cracked open a little bit. I peaked inside. It looks like the auditorium is being used as a storage space. Perhaps some type of auto repair garage. The door wasn’t open too much but I did hear some noise if as though it was a repair garage. Lots of junk inside. Hopefully, one day, the door will be propped open some more so I can get a better view. There is a church somewhere in the building but definitely not in the auditorium space.
