Clearview is letting this place fall apart at least on the outside. The marquee is mostly burned out so the cram all the letters to where the lights still work. In addition a lot of their letters are broken or the wrong size.
I used to go to the movies once a week but now maybe once a month because of the garbage product. I loved IMAX until they started making IMAX screens that were half the size of the original. I still travel to the Ziegfeld for the festivals or if anything of quality plays there. I have attended the theatre since it opened and have always felt the screen is way to small to really impress. I always hoped they would put in a huge wall to wall curved screen that could give us an experience similar to the Music Hall.
I watched an old flick on TCM called “The Marrying Kind” starring Judy Holliday and Aldo Ray. They go the Route 110 Drive-In and there is actual footage of the huge marquee. If anyone had this film on DVD it would be great to take screen shots.
I never knew the neighborhood run was that rigid on one week playdates on the first tier. I guess when pictures still had strong legs the second and third tier really benefitted.
SethLewis you are correct I fear many many of the Clearview houses would be deemed “not worth the trouble” to a new company. As soon as AMC bought out Loew’s/Cineplex they closed the Rockville Center which had a very high per screen average because it “was only a twin”.
The balcony is probably still intact above the store in the auditorium.

Why have they never played the 70mm Cleopatra print?
It would have to be a non-profit or a foundation, the weekly nut at the Ziegfeld is HUGE.
We have nothing like them here. The Film Forum programs great but lets face it the cinemas are tiny as are the screens.

There are no cinemas close and still they cant make it?

CVS built a new store a few blocks away and this will be closing shortly. They have banners hung announcing the property for lease.
The marquee is falling apart and there is terrible graffiti on the wall above it. I don’t know how the interior is but the outside looks really bad.
